To sign up to volunteer as a group, group leaders should contact the Volunteer Director, Josh Wade, at josh@jandaracing.com or by calling 757-412-1056.  Groups must consist of a minimum of 10 people.

Volunteer Shifts

Packet Pick-up/T-Shirts: 
·       Friday, 11:30am – 4:00pm
·       Friday, 3:30pm – 8pm
·       Saturday, 6am – 8:30am

Start Line:
·       Saturday, 7am – 10:30am

Finish Line:
·       Saturday, 7am – 11am

Course Marshal:
·      Saturday, 7am – 11am

Dry Bag Check:
·      Saturday, 6:30am – 12pm

Water Stop:
·      Saturday, 6am – 11am

Finish Line Catchers:
·       Saturday, 7am – 11am

Post-race Party Assist: 
·       Saturday, 7am – 12pm

Volunteer Descriptions

Packet Pick-up/T-Shirts
Description: Volunteers are assigned to two areas within packet pick up:  race packets and t-shirt distribution.  Volunteers for race packets must verify participants’ identities and give them their race bibs.  Volunteers for t-shirt distribution will hand out race t-shirts and goody bags to participants.
Time Commitment: Maximum 4.5 hours on Friday (day before race) and 2.5 hours on Saturday (morning of race)
Check In Location: Volunteer Check In; Lobby of Virginia Beach Convention Center
What to Wear: Volunteers will receive a volunteer t-shirt and we encourage you to wear comfortable shoes.

Start Line
Description: Volunteers at the 10k start line assist race staff in putting up the start line arch, preparing and securing start corrals, controlling pre-race start crowds, and assisting with corral control and movement during the wave start.  Volunteers then reposition to the oceanfront for the Monster Mile start.
Time Commitment: Maximum of 3.5 hours on race day

What to Wear: Volunteers for this position will be outside for their entire shift and should dress for the existing and forecasted weather.  Volunteers will be given volunteer t-shirts and we encourage you to wear comfortable shoes.

Finish Line
Description: Volunteers at the finish line assist race staff distributing medals, food, water, and other items to finishers.
Time Commitment: Maximum 4.5 hours on race day
Check In Location: Volunteer Tent at Oceanfront; 17th Street Park at the boardwalk
What to Wear: Finish line volunteers are outside for their entire shift and should dress for the existing and forecasted weather.  Volunteers will be given volunteer t-shirts and we encourage you to wear comfortable shoes.

Course Marshals
Description: Course Marshals are assigned to intersections and other critical points to prevent vehicle and pedestrian encroachment on the course during the race.  As part of their assignment, course marshals are encouraged to cheer on participants and have fun!  NOTE:  Volunteers for this position must be at least 18 years old.
Time Commitment: Maximum 3 hours on race day

Dry Bag Check
Description: Volunteers are assigned to vans near the start where participants drop off bags which contain their post-race clothing.  Volunteers collect these bags, and after the vans are driven to the finish area, volunteers re-distribute bags to the participants.
Time Commitment: Maximum 4.5 hours on race day

What to Wear: Dry bag volunteers are outside for their entire shift and should dress for the existing and forecasted weather.  Volunteers will be given volunteer t-shirts and we encourage you to wear comfortable shoes.

Water Stops
Description: Volunteers for water stops set up tables and cups of fluid before the race, pass out that fluid during the race, then break down and clean up the water stop after the race.  Water stop volunteers are also encouraged to cheer on participants as they pass by!
Time Commitment: Maximum 5 hours on race day

Post Race Party Assist
Description: Volunteers for this position will assist the food preparation staff in distributing the post-race party food.  Tasks include marking runners’ bibs as they receive their food, distributing food, and helping to control the lines of participants waiting for their food. NOTE:  Volunteers for this position must be at least 16 years old.
Time Commitment:  Maximum of 4.5 hours on race day
Check In Location:  Volunteer Tent at Oceanfront; 17th Street Park at the boardwalk
What to Wear:  Post Race Party Assist volunteers will be inside the food tent at the oceanfront and should dress for the existing and forecasted weather.  Volunteers will be given volunteer t-shirts and we encourage you to wear comfortable shoes.
